This award recognises the exemplary leadership of an individual in advancing the postal industry. Accomplishments honoured are likely to be innovative, an industry first, or represent a long and sustained record of success in fulfilling its mission and meeting profit targets. These achievements may have been established over a period of time, not necessarily during the preceding year.
Examples include development of novel industry partnerships; a unique commitment to postal customers, or exemplary management of an institution through optimisation of resources, bringing benefit to stakeholders. Nominees must be individuals and are required to be living at the time they are nominated.
The judging panel recognized Massimo Sarmi for his sustained record of development at Poste Italiane, bringing improved products, services and profits after 50 years of red ink.

Please note that nominations for The Industry Leadership Award 2012 close earlier than the rest of the World Mail Awards categories, on 16 January 2012.
